Anna hopes that Edwin has recovered from his tedious trip. Belasco is ill with pneumonia. She wants him to dress properly. Glass has sent money to your acct. It has paid the bills. Mrs. Sakavala is on her trip to Persia. She discusses her sights there. She is placing a rose on the grave of Hafig in the name of Markham. This has pleased Anna greatly.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
